Marcia’s Story

Marcia Trawinski advocates for accessible programming throughout Chicago, and participates in a wide variety of barrier free cultural experiences for individuals with disabilities. One such program, the Access Project at Victory Gardens Theater, offers several different entry points for blind audiences to engage with live performance.

Since her birth in 1948, Marcia has had poor vision. Now in her early 70s, she serves as a mid-life support group facilitator at Blind Service Association, an organization in downtown Chicago that provides reading help, Braille texts, and other accessible materials to people of all ages. She also serves on the Chicago ADA Advisory Committee, helping to advise the city’s Paratransit services in how to ensure quality accessibility for people with disabilities.
